The Technology Development Foundation of Türkiye (TTGV) has, since 2023, pivoted its focus to climate technologies to enable Türkiye to undergo a sustainable transformation in industry while preserving its competitive strength in the face of the global impacts of climate change. In line with this vision, the “Öncül Proje Programı” (Pioneer Project Program) is a three-phase, original support model designed to promote the development and commercialization of innovative climate technologies. Within the program’s investment phase, “Öncül Yatırım” (Pioneer Investment), in-depth analyses are conducted on priority climate technologies, comprehensively evaluating sector needs, technology potential, and investability.
Within this scope, the deep-dive analysis titled “Next-Generation Fuel Technologies in Hard-to-Decarbonize Sectors" examines the technical, economic, and environmental feasibility of biofuels and synthetic fuels in sectors with high dependence on fossil fuels—such as aviation, maritime, heavy-duty transport, and energy-intensive industries. Informed by a broad network of expert perspectives, the analysis presents investment opportunities, regulatory needs, and potential business models through a holistic approach.
The findings offer concrete recommendations for Türkiye to take strategic steps in next-generation fuels, providing multi-faceted solutions ranging from establishing production infrastructure and addressing regulatory gaps to securing sustainable feedstocks and accessing global markets. This summary report aims to serve as a practical guide for decision-makers, investors, and technology developers.
